About The Program
Program Brief
The City of the Future Program is a hands-on innovation and urban design experience that introduces students to the world of smart cities, sustainability and future-focused problem-solving. Through hands-on workshops and collaborative challenges, students will explore how cities may evolve as they reimagine transportation, housing, public spaces, workplaces and community life for the year 2050 and beyond.
Designed to build problem-solving skills and confidence, the program helps students deepen their understanding of urban development issues and strengthen their critical thinking skills to develop their own future-ready city solution. Along the way, students will discover exciting future pathways in urban planning, architecture, engineering, sustainability and technology.
Workshop Themes Include:
Future Cities & Urban Innovation Students explore how technology, sustainability and population growth are changing the way cities are designed and experienced.
Transportation & Smart Infrastructure Students investigate future-focused transport systems, smart infrastructure and connected technologies that could shape tomorrow’s communities.
Sustainable Communities & Public Spaces Students explore how cities can become more sustainable, inclusive and liveable through green spaces, renewable energy and community-focused design.
Urban Design & City Planning Students work collaboratively to redesign sections of a city while applying design thinking, problem-solving and innovation strategies.
Program Outcomes:
By the end of the program, students will:

Explore real-world urban design and sustainability processes
Build skills in design thinking, innovation and teamwork
Create and pitch an original future-focused city concept for a real audience
Every program can be tailored to suit the specific goals and expected outcomes of your classroom. Age Group
This program has been designed for Primary and High School students and is recommended specifically for Grade 5 - 9 students.
Program Length
This program can be adapted in length to run for one hour, two hours, three hours, or a full day in length.
Longer programs allow students to further develop their skills and dive deeper into the program content. Shorter programs are great as a taster experience for students touching lightly on the key topics.
