Designing Smart And Sustainable Spaces Of The Future

About The Program

The Designed Spaces program invites students to become future-focused designers as they reimagine the spaces around them through the lens of innovation, sustainability, and technology. From classrooms to community hubs, students will be challenged to design a space of the future that meets the evolving needs of their school or local community. Using design thinking and user-centred design tools, students will explore how we can create future focused environments that support learning, wellbeing, collaboration, and creativity for the next generation.

Throughout the workshop, students will take part in interactive masterclasses to build their knowledge of sustainable design, smart technology, user centred design, and inclusive design. They’ll investigate the way spaces influence behaviour and belonging, explore future trends in the built environment, and develop bold concepts for how our learning and community spaces could look and function in the years ahead. Working in teams, they’ll sketch their plans, map user journeys, and bring their ideas to life through prototypes, models, or digital mock-ups.

At the end of the program, students will pitch their final designs to their peers, showcasing their creative thinking, collaboration, and ability to apply real-world design principles to solve meaningful challenges. Designed Spaces is a powerful opportunity for students to build enterprise and innovation skills while shaping more thoughtful, inclusive, and future-ready places to learn, work, and connect.
