About The Program

The Sustainable Futures Program is a hands-on sustainability and innovation experience that challenges students to explore some of the environmental issues shaping their future. Through interactive workshops and collaborative challenges, students will investigate real-world sustainability problems such as waste, fast fashion, food consumption and plastic pollution before developing creative solutions designed to create positive change.

Designed to build confidence in creativity, collaboration and problem-solving, the program takes students through a design thinking process as they investigate the causes of sustainability challenges, understand the people and communities affected and develop innovative responses. Along the way, students will explore sustainable design, responsible consumption, emerging technologies and social enterprise while discovering how innovation can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Workshop Themes Include:

Sustainability Challenges Students explore environmental and sustainability challenges facing communities today, investigating topics such as waste, fast fashion, food consumption and plastic pollution.
Responsible Consumption & Circular Thinking Students investigate how products, services and everyday behaviours can be redesigned to reduce waste and encourage more responsible consumption.
Sustainable Innovation & Design Thinking Students use research, rapid ideation and user-centred design to develop an innovative solution such as a new product, service, campaign, technology or business model.
Developing & Pitching Solutions Students bring their ideas to life through sketches, prototypes or digital concepts before pitching how their solution could create meaningful and sustainable impact.

Schools can choose a specific sustainability challenge, Sustainable Development Goal or local issue for students to explore, otherwise students can select from a range of challenges and develop a solution around an area they are passionate about. The program can also be tailored to explore the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, such as: Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Program Outcomes:

By the end of the program, students will:

Develop confidence in creativity, collaboration and communication
Strengthen design thinking, innovation and problem-solving skills
Build a stronger understanding of sustainability and responsible consumption
Explore how technology, entrepreneurship and design can help address environmental challenges
Create and pitch an original sustainable solution to a real-world challenge

Every program can be tailored to suit the specific goals and expected outcomes of your classroom. Whether you are preparing students for assessment tasks, sustainability projects, competitions, project-based learning, showcases or curriculum outcomes, our team can adapt the experience to align with your students, learning objectives and school priorities.

Age Group

This program can be adapted to suit Primary and High School audiences. It is recommended for Grade 3-10 students.

Program Length

This program can be adapted in length to run for half a day, a full day, or two days in length.

Longer programs allow students to further develop their skills and dive deeper as they bring their ideas to life. Shorter programs are great as a taster experience for students touching lightly on the key topics.

Our Sustainable Futures program is an incredibly popular program with schools using it as a way to help their students develop their skills identifying challenges, and developing sustainable solutions on a local, national, and global scale.

Central Queensland University | Year 5-8: A term long challenge for Year 5-8 students exploring how they can design sustainable solutions to real challenges in their local community.

St Agatha's School | Year 4: A two hour program for Year 4 students to develop an understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals and how we can create initiatives to help achieve these goals.
