The Community Leaders Unit of Work is a unique program that aims to expose students to the dynamic world of sustainable development and community leadership. By utilising the principles of design thinking, students embark on a series of activities that enable them to develop a deep understanding of the challenges facing diverse communities worldwide.

Throughout the unit, students are encouraged to engage in critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovative ideation, which helps them develop key skills for success. To promote a mindset geared toward creative problem-solving, the program emphasises user personas, user-centred design, prototyping, feedback, and collaboration.  This equips students with practical tools that help them think outside the box and appreciate diverse perspectives.

The Community Leaders program instills a sense of responsibility and leadership in students by addressing challenges in Metropolia, Equalityville, and Aquatopia. It offers insights into sustainable urban development and the role of a community leader in effecting positive change. The program culminates in the SDGs Challenge Simulation, which provides a hands-on opportunity for students to apply their learnings, navigate complexities, and present innovative solutions. The unit provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities associated with community leadership. The Community Leaders Challenge empowers students to develop practical skills and tackle real-world challenges, fostering their leadership potential in creating innovative, sustainable solutions for their communities.
