Taking Flight: Inside Our Innovation in Aviation School Holiday Program ✈️

In an industry driven by innovation and rapid growth, aviation continues to offer exciting opportunities for the next generation. Our recent Innovation in Aviation School Holiday Program, delivered in partnership with Qantas Pilot Academy, alongside insights from Flight Training Adelaide (FTA) and the Aviation GISP, gave students the chance to step into this world through hands-on and real-world experiences. Through these partnerships, students gain:

  1. Exposure to real career pathways

  2. Access to industry knowledge and mentors

  3. Opportunities to explore cutting-edge technology and trends

  4. And most importantly, they gain the confidence to see themselves as part of the future of aviation.

Across two action-packed days, students explored what the future of flying could look like in 2032. They designed long-haul aircraft cabins, reimagined airports of the future and explored what the future of transport will look like, all while working in teams and applying design thinking to solve real challenges.

Real-World Experiences That Bring Learning to Life

One of the highlights? Getting inside the A737 simulator.

There’s nothing quite like the moment a student takes the controls for the first time. You can see the shift instantly, curiosity turns into confidence and suddenly, a career in aviation feels real.

Combined with facility tours of the Qantas Pilot Academy, students were able to experience the environments where future pilots are trained, hear directly from industry professionals and understand the pathways available to them.

Why Programs Like This Matter

Programs like this are about more than just a great experience. They’re about preparing young people for industries that are growing, evolving and in need of future talent. According to the Queensland Transport and Logistics Workforce Current and Future Trends Report, the aviation sector is experiencing significant growth driven by increasing demand for domestic and international travel, alongside ongoing workforce shortages in key roles like pilots and engineers .

At the same time, there are barriers to training and an ageing workforce, highlighting just how important it is to engage the next generation early and give them exposure to these career pathways. Queensland alone is a major hub for aviation, with multiple international airports and continued investment in infrastructure and workforce development

By working alongside industry, we’re able to give students meaningful insight into what’s possible and the skills needed to get there. Whether exploring a future career or simply trying something new, students walked away inspired, confident and ready to keep innovating.
