About The Resource

How can stadiums evolve to meet the changing expectations of fans, communities, sponsors and the environment?

The Future of Sport Unit of Work invites students to explore the future of live sport by redesigning a stadium through the lens of innovation, sustainability and user-centred design.

Across this project based learning unit, students investigate how sporting venues are changing in response to emerging technologies, accessibility needs and shifting spectator expectations. Working in teams, students select a real-world stadium and analyse its strengths, weaknesses and future opportunities before developing a redesigned concept that improves the overall spectator experience.

Throughout the unit, students build user personas to better understand different types of stadium users, redesign stadium spaces and services, develop sponsorship partnerships aligned to their concept and explore how branding and strategic partnerships influence modern sport. They also investigate how technology, accessibility and memorable experiences contribute to successful venue design.

As the unit progresses, students refine their ideas through sketching, rapid ideation, user journey mapping and digital concept development before preparing a final pitch that communicates their future stadium concept in a professional format. The unit supports critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and persuasive communication while connecting learning to real-world industries shaping the future of sport.
