About The Resource

The Future Of Retail Unit Of Work is a ten-week project based learning resource that challenges students to explore how retail brands must evolve in response to changing customer expectations, emerging technologies and conscious consumer behaviour. Students investigate how physical stores, online platforms and brand experiences are being reshaped by innovation before selecting a retail brand to redesign for the future.

Working in teams, students choose a prominent retail brand and analyse its current market position, customer experience, strengths and opportunities for innovation. Throughout the unit, they explore how retailers are responding to global trends such as sustainability, digital engagement, changing shopping behaviours and new technologies that influence how customers discover, interact with and purchase products.

As the unit progresses, students create customer personas, redesign physical store experiences, develop conscious consumption initiatives, improve online shopping journeys and prototype digital solutions that strengthen customer engagement. Students are encouraged to think strategically about how brands remain commercially competitive while creating stronger experiences for future consumers.

The unit culminates in a final pitch presentation where each team presents a comprehensive redesign plan for their chosen retail brand, outlining how their concept responds to future trends and enhances both digital and physical customer experiences. Designed to build creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and business strategy skills, this unit connects classroom learning to one of the fastest evolving industries shaping the future of work.
