About The Resource

The Future Of Food Unit Of Work is a ten-week project based learning resource that challenges students to explore how food systems may evolve in response to growing populations, climate pressures, changing consumer behaviours and emerging technologies. Students investigate how cities might source, produce, distribute and sell food differently in the future while considering sustainability, nutrition and local impact.

Working in teams, students begin by exploring why food is becoming one of the defining challenges of the future, examining issues such as food scarcity, environmental pressure, food miles and global supply chains. As the unit progresses, they investigate emerging food innovations from around the world and apply these ideas to design a future focused food ecosystem for their own community.

Students develop a supermarket of the future, rethink in store experiences, explore local supply chain solutions, design sustainability initiatives and create a restaurant concept that reflects new technologies and future foods. Throughout the process, students are encouraged to think critically about how food systems can become more efficient, accessible and environmentally responsible.

The unit culminates in a final pitch presentation where each team presents its future food concept, outlining how their ideas improve food production, customer experience, sustainability and long term food security. Designed to build creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication skills, this unit provides students with a practical opportunity to explore one of the most important industries shaping the future.
