About The Resource
What will the future of ultra long haul air travel look like?
In the Future of Long Haul Flying Challenge Pack, students step into the world of aviation innovation as they redesign one of the world’s most ambitious flight routes, a non-stop journey from Sydney to New York.
Working through a real-world aviation challenge, students explore how airlines can improve ultra long haul travel by enhancing passenger comfort, refining aircraft layouts, developing premium upgrade options and creating memorable airport experiences. Across a series of structured challenge activities, students design solutions that balance commercial viability, customer satisfaction and operational feasibility.
To support their thinking, students are introduced to three user personas representing different passenger needs, frustrations and travel expectations. These personas encourage empathy-driven decision making as students consider how families, business travellers and older passengers may experience a flight lasting almost an entire day.
Throughout the pack, students engage with curated aviation case studies, airline examples and global innovations including cabin design concepts, airline lounges, premium service models and route launch campaigns. This helps students understand how airlines continuously innovate to improve long distance travel while remaining commercially competitive.
Designed for innovation programs, project based learning and future industries education, this pack can be completed individually, delivered collaboratively, or used by teachers as the foundation for a larger aviation or transport unit of work. Some schools choose to offer one Industry Innovator Challenge Pack to all students, while others purchase multiple packs to allow students to choose an industry challenge aligned to their interests.
