The Business Builders Unit Of Work is a practical project based learning resource designed to introduce students to entrepreneurship, innovation, and business creation through the process of developing their own small business idea. Across the unit, students work in teams to move from early ideation through to a final pitch, learning how successful businesses identify opportunities, understand customers, build brands, and communicate value.
 
Working through a startup style process, students begin by exploring what entrepreneurship is and why businesses succeed when they solve genuine problems for customers. They analyse real world business examples, investigate how leading brands have innovated within competitive markets, and form balanced teams that mirror real startup environments by identifying strengths and assigning roles.
 
As the unit progresses, students create customer personas, conduct market research, define their value proposition, and develop a minimum viable product. They then explore branding, logo design, pricing strategies, budgeting, marketing, and digital presence as they shape a business concept that is both practical and commercially viable.
 
The unit culminates in a final shark tank style pitch where each team presents its business idea, explains its customer value, and justifies key business decisions. Designed to build collaboration, creativity, financial literacy, communication, and problem solving skills, this unit gives students a highly engaging introduction to entrepreneurship while helping them understand how ideas become real businesses.
