Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are a major part of Australia’s strong economy, accounting for 99.7% of all businesses. What they are also contributing towards, however, is the 6.5 million tonnes of business waste nationally going to landfill every year.
For this design sprint, students will be working to develop solutions that will help a local small business reduce its waste. Their solution will aim at simplifying the process of improving waste management within the business, making it easier for businesses to reduce their waste generation and reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills.
Using a design sprint framework, students will be working through the five stages of Understand, Sketch, Decide, Prototype, and Validate as they understand their users and develop a solution to pitch at the end of the design sprint.
The design sprint methodology is a tool used widely in the industry for innovation and idea development and is a methodology students will be able to use in a number of areas of their life.
