In a fast-changing world, approaches that brought you success in the past, might not work so well in the future. Unlearning is learning to think and behave differently, when there are already beliefs, behaviours, or assumptions in place (that get in the way).  Dr Jo Hawkins from the University Of Western Australia will argue that for today’s young people, the ability to “unlearn” will be just as important as the ability to learn! She will share real-life stories of how the process of learning, unlearning, and relearning led to success. She will also discuss how skills related to innovation and entrepreneurship can help us challenge entrenched ways of thinking and develop new ways of working together.

The Innovative Educator Of The Year award will go to an educator who has gone above and beyond in their pursuit to educate and empower the next generation of young innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders. Finalists for our West Australian Innovative Educator Of The Year for 2023 include:

Kim Flintoff | PCACS

Michelle Fitzpatrick | St Mary's Anglican Girls' School

Michael Openshaw | Ursula Frayne Catholic College

The Young Entrepreneur Of The Year award will go to a student who has developed and demonstrated their entrepreneurial skills in order to bring their business idea to life in a scalable way. Finalists for our West Australian Young Entrepreneur Of The Year for 2023 include:

Archie Harrigan | Scambusters

Meenakshisundaram (Meena) Srinivasan | Mini Steps

Lucas Lane | Glossy Boys

After an action-packed evening full of inspiration, innovation and empowerment, or Master Of Ceremonies, Scott Millar will be delivering the closing remarks and officially closing the Next Gen Western Australia Showcase Event for 2023.
